Knowing the model of your computer, smartphone, and even some internal components of your device (such as the CPU or SSD) can be quite straightforward and doesn’t take too much time to learn. On the other hand, this does not occur with the motherboard of desktop computers or laptop computers.
Moreover, acquiring this knowledge may be of the utmost significance for those who intend to make financial investments in equipment-related components such as the motherboard, standard RAM, solid state drive, and graphics card.

In this post, we are going to teach you how to determine which type of motherboard is installed on your computer and show you how to do it yourself.

Identifying motherboard data

Finding out information about this piece of hardware can be a challenging endeavour for a number of reasons, including the motherboard that is currently installed and the operating system that is utilised by the device in question. Despite this, the technique may still be carried out without serious issues for the vast majority of users, even if they have just a little amount of prior familiarity with it.
If you have a desktop or notebook computer with Windows 10 or Windows 11 installed, there are some tools that are integrated into these versions of the Microsoft operating system that can be used to check the model of the motherboard of your equipment, in addition to other information related to the hardware. These tools can be used by those who have a desktop or notebook computer with Windows 10 or Windows 11 installed.

Do the following on a computer running Windows 10 or Windows 11 to obtain this information in the most straightforward manner possible:

  • Enter “cmd” (without the quotations) in the start menu search field to launch the Command Prompt. It is also beneficial to press Windows + R to launch the Run command.
  • When the Command Prompt window is open, type “wmic baseboard get product, manufacturer, version, serialnumber” (without the quotes) to launch the Windows management interface (WMIC).
  • The command will show information on your motherboard’s manufacturer, model, name, and other details.

Is there another way to do this?

That’s correct. Another option to learn more about the motherboard that is installed in your computer or laptop is through Windows System Information Mode. However, because it only works with some hardware types while excluding others, this approach is not the most precise in the world.
The motherboard models that work with Windows System Information mode are not included here. Therefore, you must test to see if your hardware is compatible with this approach at your own risk.

That said, do the following:

  • When this function is accessible, open the Run menu in Windows by simultaneously pressing the Windows + R keys, then type “msinfo32” (without the quotations) and press ENTER.
  • Your computer’s information will be displayed in the following window, containing the entries Baseboard Manufacturer (the company that made your motherboard), Baseboard Product (the type of installed card), and Baseboard Version (the version of that hardware).

In other words, all the information pertaining to the hardware that is installed on your computer may be obtained in a straightforward and easy to understand manner. And anybody with a basic understanding of the subject may carry out either of the methods.
Or even for people who know virtually nothing but gained knowledge from this article.
