Traveling after the Covid pandemic can be a scary thought. At least for me it was. I wanted to travel and get out of the house, but I was also thinking of my safety as I ventured out into the world again. Below are some tips I followed to help remain safe during my travels and kept in mind at all times. Although I still had the thought of Covid in my mind, knowing I was doing everything possible to keep myself and others safe helped me enjoy traveling rather than being in the house.
- COVID-19 vaccination: This will not only protect you from getting sick, but it will also help to slow the spread of the virus. Be sure to check the requirements for your destination, as some countries and states have started to require proof of vaccination for entry.
- Get tested for COVID-19: Many countries and states require a negative COVID-19 test before allowing entry. Even if it is not required, it is a good idea to get tested before and after traveling to help prevent the spread of the virus.
- Practice social distancing: When traveling, try to avoid crowded spaces and maintain a distance of at least six feet from others. Avoid shaking hands or hugging, and try to avoid touching your face.
- Wear a mask or face covering: This is one of the most effective ways to reduce the spread of COVID-19. Many airlines and other transportation companies, as well as many countries and states, now require face coverings in public spaces, so be sure to check the requirements for your destination.
- Stay informed: Before you travel, be sure to research the local COVID-19 situation at your destination. Some countries and states have stricter guidelines and restrictions in place than others. Be sure to follow any additional guidelines or restrictions in place at your destination.
- Wash your hands frequently: This is a simple and effective way to reduce the spread of COVID-19. Be sure to wash your hands frequently with soap and water for at least 20 seconds, and avoid touching your face.
- Keep your travel documents and contact information up to date: Some countries and states have implemented strict contact tracing measures. Make sure that your travel documents and contact information are up to date, so that authorities can contact you if necessary

In addition to the tips above, I took it a step further when it came to the hotel room and took my own cleaning supplies. Disinfectant wipes, disinfectant spray and gloves. As soon as I arrived in my hotel room I put on gloves and wiped everything down that I would touch to help myself feel safe and able to relax in the hotel room. Although this may have been a bit ‘extra’, it definitely helped myself enjoy the trip more knowing the hotel room was cleaned by me as I know I did a thorough job.
Nothing can guarantee your safety during pandemic times, but as things start to get better, we hope people can start getting back to enjoying life without Covid around every corner.
